Love that sweet, nutty flavor from your favorite boba shop? This easy homemade ice cream gives you that exact taro milk tea taste right at home. No churning required. Just four simple ingredients, twenty minutes of prep, and zero hassle!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream (chilled)
  • ½ cup 2% milk
  • ⅓ cup taro boba powder
  • ½ cup sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the base: Warm the milk in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds. Whisk in the taro boba powder until completely smooth.
  2. Sweeten and cool: Stir the sweetened condensed milk into the warm taro mixture. Place the bowl in a quick ice bath for 5 minutes until cool to the touch.
  3. Whip the cream: In a cold bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream on medium-high until soft, cloud-like peaks form.
  4. Fold and freeze: Gently fold the chilled taro mixture into the whipped cream using a rubber spatula. Pour into a loaf pan, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface, and freeze for at least 8 hours.

Notes

Serving Suggestions

  • Scoop into waffle cones or chilled glass bowls.
  • Top with warm tapioca pearls, extra condensed milk, or crispy wafer cookies.

Tips & Tricks

  • Keep it cold: Cold cream whips much faster and traps more air pockets.
  • Never rush the cooling step: Pouring warm taro mix into whipped cream will deflate it instantly—think of a popped balloon.
  • Fold with care: Sweep from the bottom up so you do not knock out all that fluffy air.

Storage Instructions

  • Freezer storage: Keep in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks.
  • Prevent ice crystals: Always press a piece of plastic wrap flush against the top surface before putting on the container lid.
  • Soft scooping: Let the pan sit on the counter for 1 to 2 minutes before scooping. No reheating needed for this frozen treat!
